Taler empowers communities to run their own payment infrastructure. It is the first open-source, European system with robust data protection. The project led to the creation of a Ruby library to enable Ruby projects to easily integrate Taler into their tools. This library was then used to integrate Taler into the Open Food Network software, thereby offering OFN users in Switzerland the option to use this payment method. The project is still being rolled out and is expected to be completed in mid-April.
